fanatics drive me nuts

Warning:

today's post might be a bit controversial, but then again, i promised to blog whatever that is on my mind that's worth sharing

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

yeah, you read that right...
fanatics drive me nuts...
especially when they try to shove their ideals down others' throats...

today, i'm going to focus more on homophobic fanatic...
just to clear the air on homosexuals,
i do not condone their acts but i do not condemn them either...
it's not for me to judge and i know that it's a big struggle for some of them...

the other day, there was a play (for free) in my university entitled 'Asmara Sonsang' which means
Twisted Romance...
from the beginning of the entry till i left, i don't think i really enjoyed it...
upon entry, they hand out some religious memos on... well, i didn't actually read it but it's along those lines...
then, the seating is separated to male and female...
that itself is already being ridiculous...
and here comes the summary...
"blablabla.... to the music of the Devil .... blablabla"
I was like, seriously?!
but we decided to just stay a while and see from there...
the acting was average...
and the portrayal of the LGBT community is so way off...
did they even do their research?
did they even get to know the why's before actually tackling the problem?

things i felt against their portrayal:

  1. LGBT community do not simply, blatantly shout out LGBT all the time...
  2. they are not so attached that they need a partner 24/7
  3. they don't party all night and day
  4. they have a community but i don't think they have an exclusive club that you need to register and stuff
  5. THEY ARE ALSO HUMAN!!!
in a way, i felt that if you want to "fix" them,
you should get to know them and do it with a friend (cos it's still not wise to do it alone)
get personal...
don't just get to them straight on in the crowd...
you'll only drive them further...

let's give a "normal" example for you to see...

Jimmy is a talented kid who dreams of becoming a teacher. But one day, as Jimmy was doing his exercises, he made a mistake and in comes Mrs.Maard. Mrs.Maard shouted at Jimmy while correcting him. Jimmy, feeling intimidated felt that he no longer wants to be associated with the teaching profession and decides to never go into teaching because teachers are bossy and rude, thanks to Mrs.Maard.

see...
if you bombard them like that,
you will only shun them away...
then, they would be intimidated and no longer want to be "fixed"

another part that i felt these bombardment is just plain inhumane would be in a situation like this:

Walt is a teenage boy who goes to church. But Walt has a secret that he could not tell the world. He finds guys more attractive then girls. Walt knows it's against the norm and is a sin. But he cannot get rid of these emotions. He felt that he need to seek help from his mentor. However, one day, in school, there's this fanatic religious person, Guy Marcho who screamed and shouted against homosexuality. Intimidated, Walt draws closer into the closet and denies himself for help because he's afraid that his mentor might be like that as well. 20 years has passed and only Walt and God knows his secret. Walt pleaded with God everyday to remove his desires but because he's not held accountable, he could not fully recover, thanks to Guy Marcho.

i know that these people may have the right intentions...
but their execution is just wrong...
not only they're not helping, they are worsening the condition...

so people,
i still feel that we should help and not condemn...
who are we to judge
and maybe like Walt's case, he's (or she's) struggling too...
affections are emotions and emotions are something we can't control, only hide...
it's not easy for them

thank you for staying and reading this long rant...
and if you are struggling like Walt, here's a website that could lead you to help...
it's a Christian organization that helps people who are sexually broken...
and i've heard them speak...
who is better to help than someone who has been through the same fate?
